But still, many people wonder whether acupuncture for fertility in San Francisco works, or at least, if it will work for them. Let’s take a look at what’s going on here.
Understanding the Connection between Acupuncture and Fertility
Acupuncture is a practice which is believed to be more than 2,000 years old, originating in China. Over time, acupuncture has shown itself to be effective in treating a wide variety of conditions and fertility problems is one of the most common.
This isn’t just anecdotal, either! Multiple controlled scientific studies, including ones in Germany and Israel, have shown that adding acupuncture to other typical infertility treatments can greatly increase chances of a successful pregnancy. One study showed that the addition of acupuncture treatment boosted success rates from 39.4% to 65.5%.
So, how does it work?
Well, much of the debate surrounding acupuncture today is not if it works – because it does – but rather why it works. In turn, this is because Chinese and western medicines have very different views of how the body works.
A Chinese practitioner of acupuncture would say that it works because it stimulates the body’s natural healing energies. The life energy of the body (called “Qi”) flows through internal conduits which crisscross the body, and acupuncture helps unblock these conduits. Better energetic flow leads to improved blood flow to the reproductive organs, decreased inflammation, and decreased perception of stress. All of this naturally translates to improved fertility.
A western scientist would likely speak in terms of hormones. Acupuncture seems to stimulate positive hormonal production, as well as reducing stresses which block its production. These hormones make it easier for pregnancy to occur.
Who is right? We can’t say for sure – just that acupuncture for fertility in San Francisco is very often successful! Contact us to learn more!
