Ways to Maximize the Effects of Acupuncture

While a large group of researchers still struggle to reconcile with acupuncture concepts, such as Qi using scientific mechanisms, a large part of our population swears by the efficacy of this simple needle treatment. San Francisco acupuncture can effectively relieve pain, cure a number of illnesses, and fix a myriad health problems. If you are convinced regarding the benefits of acupuncture, here are a few ways to maximize your experience.
Eat something before the session: Do not skip a meal before your acupuncture session. This is because, this form of treatment works by directing Qi – your body’s energies in specific ways. This Qi is produced from the food you eat. So, if you skip a meal, there will be less Qi in your body. Hence, for the treatment to be more effective, eat a proper meal before your appointment with the acupuncturist.
Do not consume alcohol or caffeine: Stimulants such as caffeine and alcohol stimulate the body. This is counterproductive as your body must be in a relaxed state for the Qi to flow. Acupuncture sessions promote the production of Adenosine, a kind of neurotransmitter that aids you in feeling calm, relaxed, and rested during the treatment. Stimulants block the production of this specific neurotransmitter and impede the efficiency of an acupuncture session.
Arrive at least 15 minutes early for the treatment: Plan to reach your acupuncturist’s office at least 15 minutes before the appointment. This will give your body time to relax after a drive on the road. Rushing to the clinic in frenzy will lead to stress, which can adversely affect your treatment session.
Turn off your mobile phone: As hard as it may seem, turn off your mobile phone during a session. The last thing you want is your phone going off right in the middle of a session while you are comfortably seated in a dream-like state, allowing the acupuncture needles to do their trick. To reap the benefits of an acupuncture session, focus on yourself without relenting to the pressures and demands of everyday life.
Do not indulge in strenuous activities soon after the treatment: This doesn’t mean you need to be in bed all day after a session of acupuncture. However, try and reschedule strenuous activities like mowing the lawn or clearing the garage for another day. Allow your body to heal and rebalance after the treatment to enjoy prolonged benefits of an acupuncture session.
